Two Weekend Project

As most people who have been here to the house know we have a rooftop deck where we entertain all summer long. One portion of the deck was built by the original contractor and we built the larger portion ourselves. We finally determined that the original "contractor" portion needed replacing.
In truth the frame completely rotted away and the boards were coming apart; we had no choice but to replace it. During the construction process we actually stepped through our neighbor's deck when we walked on it, so we weren't the only ones with issues!
Anyway, we started last weekend with demolition, which was not fun. The best part of demo was buying a new large crowbar. Paula wouldn't let me use an axe to chop it up; nor would she agree to letting me by a demolition tool called "The Annihilator." What does she know about fun?!

This weekend we framed and decked the entire 9x16 area. We were able to frame out an extra foot or so onto the width deck, which doesn't seem like much but really feels like a lot once you put it in place.

Here is a photo of the first plank being screwed into place!

In total we hauled up the four flights of stairs:
4 - 8ft 4x4's

10 - 12 ft 2x4's

20 - 12 ft 2x6's

We were pretty worn out by Sunday night, but the results are going to be worth it this summer!
